Feb 25th 2009 February Meeting Recap

February Minutes

John Cummins is still in Florida, so Lowell Borgen got our meeting started with a welcome and a prayer. He led our devotions also this night. The Biggest Fish Story in the Bible was his message for us. This of course is the story of Jonah and the Whale. He read the account of this event from the Bible, that is also a great story of catch and release. He ended his devotions with a powerful prayer called “A Prayer For the Times of Recession.”

Gary Elllis introduced our speaker, Rich Lingren. A champion tournament Bass fisherman. He shared a lot of his tricks and tips that he uses to be a champion. His 7 1/2 foot rods are rigged up with 40 to lb braided line. He uses nothing but tungsten sinkers (lo lead). Rich talked about the jigs and lures he uses and when and why he uses them. After answering all our questions and thanking him for speaking at our meeting we moved on to other business and announcements.

Chris Armstong gave a talk on the Fish Fair that is coming up Feb 28th from 9am to 4pm at New Hope Church.

Dave Lindmark reminded us of the Gem Silent and live Auction April 18th.

Dave Maas said our newsletter will be on the Fishers of Men Blog as long as he is doing it.

We shared some prayer needs, then Vaughn blackburn closed this meeting in prayer.

Feb 3rd 2009 Fishers of Men Club Fantasy Fishing League

Play Fantasy Fishing for Millions
Come join the Fishers of Men FLW Fantasy Fishing league I have created for the club. I think everyone in the club and their spouses should consider getting in on this fun opportunity. Last year a guy from Minnesota named Mike Thompson won the 1 million dollar grand prize and another guy from Minnesota who knew basically nothing about professional bass fishing won a $100,000. Last year dozens of people from Minnesota won prizes. Check out all the prizes that are available by clicking this sentence. There is no cost to have a shot at these prizes, the game is free. I personally have won prizes several times playing fantasy bass fishing games over the past few year. Unfortunately for me FLW didn’t start awarding such massive prizes until last year.

To enter click on the banner above and register. Once you are registered click on “Join League.” The Fishers of Men club league number is 15156 and the password is: john.

You will be required to field a 10 angler team for the 7 tournament FLW Tour schedule. There are 8 opportunities to win prizes, because in addition to the 7 tournaments they give away some awesome prizes for the top 43 fantasy players at the end of the season.

Do you have to know anything about FLW Professional Bass Fisherman to have a shot at a prize? While knowledge of the anglers certainly helps, many of the winners last year knew next to nothing about FLW Professional Bass Fishermen. I think you can elect to have a 10 angler roster picked for you but I think it is more fun if you do it yourself. For $10 you can sign up for a service called Players Advantage that makes picking a team much easier. I use Players Advantage and recommend it because the prizes you can win are so significant.

The 1st tournament of the year is Feb. 12th at Lake Guntersville, so don’t delay and sign up now.

Feb 3rd 2009 Thompson Wins Again

For the 2nd time this winter Mike Thompson has come out on top in a Ultimate Panfish League Ice Fishing Tournament. This one was on Pelican Lake near Buffalo. Mike did not fish this one with Jack Halverson; He fished with another fishing buddy of his named Casey Nygren.

You can read all about it and see more pictures at Mike’s blog MT Bucket.
