Apr 20th 2009

I went out for the maiden voyage for my semi new fishcat, I have dubbed the great pumpkin, cuz it is so big round and orange.
Andy SBF came out to try some tube fishin, i let him use my ol cat, which held him up great despite being over the size limit!
We got our sunfish on t.h.e. Jig tipped with gulp waxies, i also got fish on a JRs black and chartruse stub grub. The tiny bass and shiners followed me all around. I couldn’t keep em off my baits, but we got some nice sunfish just about everywhere we tried. the crappies were in hiding or wouldn’t bite, I got a couple.
All in all a fun day. I had fun just having my camers ready for some funny video of Andys first tubing adventure, but he did pretty good for a tube wookie!

Mar 20th 2009 Anglersurvery.com

Anglersurvey.com is a website that is pretty much self explanitory. You take a monthly survey about fishing and the fishing equipment you have bought and then are entered in a drawing to win a $100 gift card to an outdoors retailer of your choice. At the end of the year is a drawing for a $1000 gift card.

The survey only takes a few minutes. I recommend you take the time and get registered.

Mar 19th 2009 From Ice to Open

How lake ice melts.

I have found this article interesting and I reread it every Spring as I follow the progression of ice out throughout the state.

With the weather being what it is, open water will not be long now.

Feb 3rd 2009 Fishers of Men Club Fantasy Fishing League

Play Fantasy Fishing for Millions
Come join the Fishers of Men FLW Fantasy Fishing league I have created for the club. I think everyone in the club and their spouses should consider getting in on this fun opportunity. Last year a guy from Minnesota named Mike Thompson won the 1 million dollar grand prize and another guy from Minnesota who knew basically nothing about professional bass fishing won a $100,000. Last year dozens of people from Minnesota won prizes. Check out all the prizes that are available by clicking this sentence. There is no cost to have a shot at these prizes, the game is free. I personally have won prizes several times playing fantasy bass fishing games over the past few year. Unfortunately for me FLW didn’t start awarding such massive prizes until last year.

To enter click on the banner above and register. Once you are registered click on “Join League.” The Fishers of Men club league number is 15156 and the password is: john.

You will be required to field a 10 angler team for the 7 tournament FLW Tour schedule. There are 8 opportunities to win prizes, because in addition to the 7 tournaments they give away some awesome prizes for the top 43 fantasy players at the end of the season.

Do you have to know anything about FLW Professional Bass Fisherman to have a shot at a prize? While knowledge of the anglers certainly helps, many of the winners last year knew next to nothing about FLW Professional Bass Fishermen. I think you can elect to have a 10 angler roster picked for you but I think it is more fun if you do it yourself. For $10 you can sign up for a service called Players Advantage that makes picking a team much easier. I use Players Advantage and recommend it because the prizes you can win are so significant.

The 1st tournament of the year is Feb. 12th at Lake Guntersville, so don’t delay and sign up now.

Jan 8th 2009 Ron Lindner has heart surgery

From BassFan Dock Talk:

Angling pioneer and legend Ron Lindner recently had a medical scare that’s caused him to look at life all over again, he said.

It all started when he experienced some problems and decided to go for a stress test a few days before he was to leave for his winter home in Florida. The stress test led to an angioplasty that revealed six blockages in his arteries. He underwent surgery almost immediately for three double-bypasses and is currently recovering in Minneapolis–St. Paul. He’s 75 years old.

“I had a lot of prayer from a lot of loved ones,” he said. “My life is the fishing business, and I had a lot of prayer from within the industry and from without. It’s probably the heaviest hit of anything I’ve ever felt in my life, but I’m going to be fine. It’ll take time, and there’ll be some healing involved here.

“It’s actually a blessing from God,” he added. “I was on my way out of here for Florida when I took the stress test. My brother Al said it’s better they found out now than to have me 25 miles up in the Everglades fighting a tarpon by myself at 5:00 at night.”

This wasn’t his first brush with a potentially deadly condition. He had melanoma in the face several years ago. Looking back, he said the heart trouble was caused by years of not taking care of himself. He was a heavy drinker and smoker before he found God, and never took seriously the recommendations for eating light. In fact, he remembers his days as a walleye guide when he’d throw lard in the skillet to cook his walleye shore lunches.

He opts for baked walleye now, and urges BassFans to do the same.

Right now, he’s not sure if he’ll be able to get to his Florida retreat before spring. He can’t be in a sitting position for any longer than 3 hours. That’s about how long a direct flight will take, so if he does go, he’ll fly and have sometime drive his rig down.

“I’ll tell you this on reevaluating your life situation – you look at it a little different now,” he said from his hospital bed. “I thank everybody who prayed for me. I truly believe modern medicine is a gift from God.”

Dec 20th 2008 Hello

This is Dave Maas and I have been given the go ahead to start blogging here on the club blog. Due to my blogging at Bass Pundit and my other blogs I sort of know what I am doing, but I use the blogging service Blogger and this blog is on the blogging service Wordpress so things are a little bit different between the two.

My very first action with the blog was to add some things called “widgets” which will permanently be a part of the blog. I was hoping these “widgets” were going to show up in a column on the right hand side of blog, but instead they are on the bottom where you can’t see them unless you scroll down to the bottom of the page. Hopefully we will be able to get the Blogrolls, Categories, and Archives put in a permanent column on the right hand side.

I have high hopes that this blog can become an important and helpful feature for the club. For that to happen at least for right now means that you are going to have to check back here on a regular basis to find out what is new. Hopefully at some point we will be able to send you an email everytime there is a new blog posted. I am not sure how we go about doing that as there is no widget option for it. It may be that you just can’t do that with a Wordpress blog. So keep checking back and God bless!

Updated: I came to find out that the widgets I added to the blog were also showing up on all the other Fishersofmenclub.org webpages.  Not something that is desireable, so I removed them.

I also found out that there are things called “Pluggins” which are kind of like widgets.  The Pluggins add functionality and features to the blog.  I found a Pluggin that allows emails to be sent out everytime there is a new post on the blog.  You would think adding a Pluggin would be simple but I could not figure out how to add this email notification Pluggin and believe me I read the instructions on how to do it.
